Elite Highways was commissioned Cummings International in Darlington to excavate a new inspection pit within their factory. The pit was required to accommodate a new piece of machinery that was being installed in the factory.

The excavation work was carried out in a confined space with difficult access and egress.

Elite Highways used a variety of techniques to safely excavate the pit, including:

  • Using small excavators that were able to maneuver in the confined space.
  • Installing temporary supports to prevent the sides of the pit from collapsing.
